Small Area Plans
Recognizing the unique character of Anne Arundel County’s different communities, the 1997 General Development Plan divided the County into 16 small planning areas and recommended that a separate, more detailed land-use plan be completed for each.
These Small Area Plans will serve as a guide for future land use, zoning, transportation improvements, open space and other capital improvements and identify opportunities for commercial revitalization and, where appropriate, mixed-use development.
Citizens have played a key role in developing the Small Area Plans. For each small planning area a committee of residents and business people helped channel neighborhood insights and suggestions to County planners. Planners and committee members also sought input through public forums, surveys and focus groups. Design professionals were used to supplement in-house expertise and to help identify opportunity areas for improved community design.
Small Area Plans have been or are being developed for the following areas: Annapolis Neck, Broadneck, Brooklyn Park, BWI/Linthicum, Crofton, Crownsville, Deale/Shady Side, Edgewater/Mayo, Glen Burnie, Jessup/Maryland City, Lake Shore, Odenton, Pasadena/Marley Neck, Severn, Severna Park, and South County.
Copies of draft and adopted Small Area Plans are distributed to County libraries in the Small Planning Area. Please check with your local library to determine if they have a copy of Plan you are interested in. Additionally, plans can be purchased at the Map Counter.
Small Area Plans can also be viewed and downloaded at the Anne Arundel County Citizens Information Center web-site:
